A teenager described as a Boy Scout saved Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom from a knife attack Tuesday,
a presidential spokesman said.
The assailant "aimed at the president from about 10 feet away, but another young boy -- about 15 years old --
maybe one feet away jumped to prevent him," spokesman Mohamed Shareef said.
The boy "came in the way and grabbed the knife," Shareef told The Associated Press.
"One brave boy saved the president's life."
The attacker's knife was wrapped in a national flag, Shareef said.
"The knife touched the president's shirt but not his body," he said.
The teen, whose name was given as Jaisham, is a Boy Scout, Shareef told AP.
Jaisham received a hand wound and was flown to the capital of Male for treatment
because he could not move some of his fingers, Shareef told AP.
Gayoom was unhurt, Shareef said.

The Fair Hill Nature Center has produced a calendar this year.
We have sponsors for each month of the year and we designated August as Boy Scout month.
We did this because of the outstanding amount of support we have received over the years.
We would like to use this calendar as a way to increase awareness of the Nature Center's
educational programs, and create much needed revenues for both FHNC and Boy Scouts of America.
Here is our proposal:
- We have 1,250 calendars that will arriving to us on December 17
- The calendars are being sold for $10.00 each
- We are offering the scouts 40% of the revenues they generate.
- This potential $5,000 in fundraising can go directly to each persons scout account or the troop account itself.
- Calendars will be given to which ever troop wants to participate in this fundraising campaign. The troop is then accountable for the calendars they receive, but no out of pocket expense.
- Calendars can be given to each Troop to view on December 17th.
- We will be selling the calendars from December 17th through the end of January 2008.
Click here to see a PDF (3MB) showing the calendar itself.

What better way to continue your dedication to Scouting than by serving as a Commissioner. At the present time,
the Commmissioner Staff is looking for dedicated Scouters who are willing to serve as Unit Commissioners,
Roundtable Commissioner, and on the Roundtable Staff. If you're interested in taking on this unique opportunity,
please contact Ben Feril, Cecil District Commissioner at bengmferil@msn.com.

We would like to present all the Boy Scouts in Cecil District who received the Eagle award in
2006 and 2007 in an Eagle's Nest page in the Cecil Whig. We will do this with a photograph,
their troop number, sponsoring organization, and date the Eagle was earned.
We suggest a somewhat recent close-up photo, in or out of uniform. A studio-type photo, as
in a yearbook, would be good but is not required.
Please send the photo of your troop's awardee(s) in JPG format, if possible, to
gftozer@comcast.net. If you have only a hard
copy photo, we can make arrangements to have it scanned.
YIS,
Gordon Tozer

A Photo Essay Communication
We are pleased to present to you the first in a series of quarterly e-mails
you will be receiving titled “The Value of Scouting.”
In a time when too much of the news we receive focuses on exposing negatives
about people, it is important to share the positive things that are happening
through Scouting. Many of you are keenly aware of great Scouting stories, and
have asked for assistance in sharing your good news with key audiences. We
have listened.
The photo essays for this quarter have been developed to easily and effectively
demonstrate the positive impact of Scouting. They are scheduled to be posted
on
www.scouting.org
quarterly for 2007. You have the opportunity to distribute
them to people you know who need to hear about Scouting today.
Thank you for all that you do to share the value of Scouting in your communities.
